Glenelg Country School takes a firm stance against plagiarism, as stated on pages 20-21 of the 2007-2008 Upper School Handbook Addendum:

Plagiarism, that is, presenting anothers work as ones own whether it is intentional or not, combines both stealing and lying. When students plagiarize someone elses words or ideas, they are stealing intellectual property form that person. Additionally, taking credit for this work is lying. Plagiarism includes direct quotation, paraphrasing, or summarizing without proper citation.

Penalties for plagiarism, and plagiarism prevention tips are also presented in the handbook.

The Upper School uses MLA citation format with titles italicized. Copies of the MLA Handbook are available in the library. MLA FAQ.

Why We Cite:

  1. To give proper credit to the author or creator of an idea
  2. To protect ourselves from plagiarism
  3. Good citation is a roadmap for future research.

Glenelg Country School uses NoodleTools as a citation/notecard management system. NoodleTools. Students receive instruction in use of NoodleTools in their 9th grade year.
