Primary School Tag Day Book Drive – September 30, 2011
The
Primary School Tag Day Book Drive was held on Friday, September 30, 2011. Gently-used adult and children’s books were
brought in by parents and students.
Books continued to arrive on Monday, October 3, 2011. By Monday afternoon, we had collected 6
boxes of adult books for Howard County Public Library and 11 boxes of
children’s books for Barclay School in Baltimore. In September, the Lower School had also sent
15 boxes of gently-used school books and materials to Primary School Library to
be given to Barclay School.
On October 4, 2011 John Shipley
loaded all 26 boxes of children’s books into a van, and John, Frank Hays, and
Judi Hays headed to Barclay School in Baltimore to meet with the new
representative of their Story Pals Reading Program, Michelle Barrow, to deliver
the boxes of books.
The Book Drive Tag Day is the
“kick-off” for a year-long book drive that begins in September and ends in
June. The Primary School Library
continues to collect gently-used children’s books throughout the school year
for Barclay School.
As in the past two years, the
children’s books that are donated after September will be picked up from Glenelg Primary School Library in the Spring
by students and representatives from Barclay School. On that day, the Barclay Students will also
participate in a Story Time with our Pre-K students. The Barclay students chosen to come to Glenelg enjoy presenting the inter-active Story Time as
much as our youngest Glenelg students enjoy
participating in the Story Time.
Donations of books to Barclay School
are used not only in the school library and classrooms, but also for their Family
Literacy Story Pals Reading Program (both during school and after school) which
extends to all the families at Barclay School.
Thank You to everyone who helped to
make our Tag Day such a success!
