Dear Lower School Families,
Hopefully, you are having a
fun and relaxing summer. It has been
wonderful to see many of our students enjoying the summer camps on campus.
Communication The school
is changing its website provider which will allow us to streamline
communication. More information
regarding this change will be forthcoming.
Until the new website is fully operational, we will continue to
communicate via list-serve, mailings, the Parent Portal, and this Daily
Announcement site.
ERB Results The
ERB test results for students in 2nd – 5th (during the
2009-2010 school year) were mailed on July 12th. A description of the reports was included in
the results information. There will be
an informational meeting
on September 23rd at 8:30am in the parlors. This meeting is open to incoming 2nd
grade parents through outgoing 5th grade students who took the test
in May. We will discuss what the ERBs
are all about and what the information is used for in terms of students and
curriculum. Please contact the Lower
School Office should you have any questions.
Faculty Changes Ieva Bolsteins is
the new 3rd grade teacher. An announcement was sent via listserv on July
2nd. Mrs. Bolsteins will be
teaching mathematics, language arts and science. Please welcome Mrs. Bolsteins to the Lower
School!
First Full Day of School The first full day of classes is
Wednesday, September 8th.
Students should report to their homerooms between 8:00am and
8:15am. The school day ends at
3:30. Dress code is regular uniform attire.
Health Forms
Health forms were sent home in a previous Business Office Mailing on
March 30th. Forms and
requirements differ for returning and new students as indicated on the Parent
Portal. Please do not wait to schedule
your child’s physical, as all forms are due on or before August 1, 2010. Printable forms are available through the
Parent Portal under Downloadable Forms.
Orientation Day Orientation Day is scheduled for
Tuesday, September 7th between 9:00am and 12:00pm. Students must
be accompanied by their parents, and may arrive any time during the three
hour orientation. They will have the
opportunity to visit their classrooms and teachers, visit with friends, and
organize their school supplies during this time. (Supply lists by grade are
available on the GCS website.) Dress code is casual attire.
Report Cards
Report cards were mailed on June 4th along with the summer
reading requirements, math recommendations (students entering grades 2-4),
required math packets (students entering grade 6), dress code, and supply
lists. Please contact the LS office if
you have not received any of this information.
School Uniforms There
was a great turnout for the Flynn and O’Hara uniform fitting on June 29th. (A copy of the 2010-2011 Dress Code is on the
GCS website.) This year, girls can purchase khaki pants anywhere; you are not
restricted to Flynn and O’Hara. However, low rise, hip huggers, or cargo pants are NOT permitted. Girls
no longer need the Dragon Emblem on their pants.
ENJOY THE SUMMER!!
NOTE: GCS School Closures will be posted on Schoolsout.com.
GCS makes
its own decision about early closures and posts the decision to the GCS
homepage and to Schoolsout.com.
